Jordan, the team’s mechanical engineer, uses SOLIDWORKS and PDM to start the project pick and place concept design on the right foot. He starts structural design as he crafts a visual bill of materials and cost estimate to support the RFP response.
The team’s creative specialist, Mike, raises the bar, eschewing stacks of drawings for pro quality photo renderings. Will these have what it takes to impress their client with their pick and place proposal?
Project manager, Brian, checks in on the team's concept as he gets ready to pitch the initial design proposal and cost to their client. If they can win the bid, it will be a race to the finish.

Optimized Design
Pressure mounts now that the team has won the bid. The detailed design must be perfect while sticking to the razor-thin budget. Luckily, optimizing the design and making changes in SOLIDWORKS is a snap. The team is almost ready for design review!

Andrew is under extra pressure to validate the motion and cycle time of the pick and place, while also looking for opportunities to reduce component and structural cost.
Jordan completes his welded structure, then turns his attention to crafting sheet metal connectors to the existing machine. He uses in context modeling to rapidly complete machine safety components.
The team’s resident electrical engineer, JP, connects all the circuits and generates all the report deliverables with the electrical design for this pick and place design.
The final design is almost complete and ready for Brian, the team's project manager, to take a final look and approve for manufacturing and technical publication creation.

CAD to CAM
The deadline looms large. Finding a business partner that can go directly from the CAD file to CAM is critical to success. Potential production issues are minimized with SOLIDWORKS MBD. It looks like the manufacturing team will deliver on time.

Easy Documentation
Thanks to SOLIDWORKS Composer, the technical documentation is developed concurrently with product design. Images automatically update in Composer when CAD files are modified. Manuals and interactive content are ready before the product is shipped.
